My Lame Attempt at Acting

My wife and I recently had the opportunity…nay the privilege to hang out with fellow photographer Ciara Richardson and her husband Brett. If you haven’t seen her portrait and wedding photography, definitely check it out. Brett and I decided to try something we had seen in a photoshoot over at My Modern Met. We came up with a few scenarios and decided to try our hand at acting it out. Since Ciara beat me to the punch, and already typed out the scenarios next to the corresponding image, I’m just going to borrow hers. I hope she doesn’t send me a DCMA take down notice.

What do you get when you mix a very creative corporate event, a white wall, an osculating fan, and a photographer? If you are still unsure see below.

Datamark asked us to photograph their annual Data Prom held at the Rice Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City, Utah. Let me just say that this was easily the coolest corporate event that I’ve ever attended. The party was themed as a 90′s prom, and yes, I was reminded of the two awkward proms that I attended in 1998 and 1999. They asked us to come up with some cheesy and fun photography “booths” that the party goers use to immortalize the evening. As perfect as the evening was there were 2 things that I found slightly disappointing. First, Chuck Norris did not attend. I thought for sure he would instinctively know about an event this awesome and attend even though he wasn’t invited. Second, I didn’t see a single pair of JNCO Jeans. C’mon, was I the only person that grew up in the 90′s?

Fall Casualties

So…I’ve been told many times that I’m distracted by shiny objects. I think its more accurate to say that I’m distracted by bright objects. While shooting a family portrait I walked past the same spot several times. Each time I spotted this bright read leaf in the midst of mud, asphalt, and sticks. I just had to snap a pic. Who knew that years later I’d stumble across it and still get distracted by it.

Moral of the story…don’t forget to look down. You might find something interesting.

Festa Dei Folli Masquerade Ball

In the last few years, Halloween has become my favorite holiday. Last year my wife made our whole family Avatar The Last Air Bender costumes (she is quite the seamstress). Well, technically my twin girls were flowers, but hey, I’m pretty sure that there were flowers somewhere in that TV series.

This year we decided to kick it up a notch and organize a masquerade ball. We dubbed it it Festa Dei Folli (festival of fools). What a ton of fun! I wanted to share some pictures of the event. We are planning on doing it again next year and making it even better. SWEET!

Oh yea…I love fisheye lenses.

I guess most people call these types of pictures groomals. Honestly, I think the name is a bit silly. I think I’ll just call these pictures awesome. It seems to fit the best.

Stefani and Eric’s wedding day was so much fun. After the wedding and before the reception we decided to hit the streets of Salt Lake City to get some Bridals/Groomals/awesome photography. Even though it was probably a million degrees in Salt Lake City, they still rocked. Here is a sampling of some of my favorites.

Kenzie, you rock! How much fun can one shoot be? Well, I can tell you this shoot was more fun than spending the day at the county fair and eating funnel cakes. I don’t shoot a whole lot of senior portraits. We have focused most of our efforts towards wedding photography, but Kenzie has convinced me that we need to look into shooting senior pictures more often. I absolutely love how these pictures turned out.

Going Through Old Photos

A few days ago, I was reorganizing some of my older photos. Normally I just post my wedding photography, but I came across the below pictures that I took in Ogden, Utah and thought I’d share them. I snapped both of these pictures without much of a thought. I saw something that caught my eye (as you may know I’m easily distracted by shiny objects), and spent less than 5 seconds taking a picture of it. At the time, I didn’t think much about it. There were other things on my mind, so I just took the picture, put it on my computer and let it sit for a year.

These pictures make me wonder how this sticker got there, and what the purpose was. I’ll probably never know. In fact, I can’t find Article Clothing Company anywhere. There’s a good possibility that they are out of business, yet their brand lives on because some wedding photographer from Utah decided to put it on his blog.
